In Hinduism, there lies a concept of the Guru or a human prophet who guides the inner awakening of his disciples- many Hindu texts state that a human Guru is extremely vital- the same texts state that every single action, even every thought or any encounter can and should be your teacher or master or Guru surely. Many saints and texts also say that you yourself are your own guiding light and for that to happen, one should remain single and single-pointed.
There are all the real saints in our post modern times like Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Sw Tejomayananda, Sw Jaggi Vasudev, and then are those that are totally fake like Sw Nityananda, the Beas movement, and several other cults that preach and practise Hinduism at an extremely large scale- how do such fake swamis attract so many people, while many are and should be revered, many fake Swamis need to be called out and even exposed wholeheartedly.
This also highlights the fact that our Indian people are so fake themselves that even fake people or anyone preaching anything is taken very seriously. The majority of the population in India is fake, that’s why all kinds of phoney Gurus keep springing up every now and then. The problems rampant in our society are so many like so much poverty, such monstrous illiteracy and a resounding over-population that keeps attracting more and more people economically. In fact such middle classes are the target market of all brands of imported clothings and electronics- the more the phoneyness, the greater the demand and the more the manufacture and the profits.
This is the sole purpose of the various international brands delivering into India that believe in numbers over quality.
The population that follows such fake gurus is the same target market of our rows and rows of fake and phoney gurus, saints and sages. Swami Nityananda, Amritananda Mata, and several other swamis are totally fake and should be stopped from cheating so many masses of ignorant people all steeped in poverty and anarchy. The phoneyness of a cult can be called out from its practices- like hot yoga and its founder Swami Bikram, the cult of Rajneesh, whereas Swami Ramana, Aurobindo Ashram and KFI are some of the more original and genuine ones globally.
Most followers follow such fake gurus because they get ample food there at discounted rates, they can get lots of romantic partners, and for the simple fact that such cults allow anything and everything inside their doorways.
I personally believe that one should walk on the spiritual path alone and rely only on the scriptures as being one’s real and true beacon-light of devotedness.
